Shadow Mountain is an artmaking/design/build studio dedicated to weaving art and design into the fabric of natural and built environments. We create experiences where nature, architecture, and the human condition converge.
Position Overview: We're seeking a passionate design student for a 5-hour per week unpaid internship opportunity. This position offers hands-on experience in environmental design, digital mapping, and user experience. It is perfect for students looking to build their portfolio while learning about the intersection of art, technology, and the built environment.
Note: Every internship we offer provides an opportunity for financial remuneration or class credit. This position is only open to a student taking an internship course for credit, and this unpaid educational opportunity complies with Department of Labor guidelines for internships. We believe everyone should be compensated for their time in a way that feels amenable to them.
Learning Opportunities:
- Contribute to interface design for website development, proposal development, and project presentations
- Assist in creating GIS mapping visualizations for environmental design projects
- Learn about integrating art installations within natural landscapes
- Participate in the full exhibition design/build process
- Develop skills in user experience research and application in physical spaces
- Collaborate with designers, artists, and builders
Requirements:
- Current enrollment in a design, architecture, urban planning, or related program
- Enthusiasm for learning mapping principles and GIS software
- Interest in environmental design and public spaces
- Strong visual design sensibilities
- Familiarity with design software (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or similar)
- Available 5 hours per week for one semester
